Hook Garden Design offers garden design, design and build, and planting design across Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.

Every project responds to the character of its setting, the architecture of the property and the way the garden will be used. Our services are structured around the needs of each project, from developing an initial design direction to delivering a completed garden.

Garden Design

Our garden design service establishes a clear and considered vision for the whole garden. Each scheme is developed in response to the site, bringing together spatial structure, materials, planting and the practical requirements of everyday use.

Depending on the scale of the garden and the level of detail required, the service is offered at two levels.

Detailed Garden Design

A comprehensive design service for gardens that require a fully resolved and buildable scheme.

The design is developed from the overall arrangement of the garden through to materials, construction details and planting. The resulting package can be used to cost, plan and implement the project with clarity.

Typically includes:

  • Initial consultation and detailed site survey

  • Site and spatial analysis

  • Concept development

  • Detailed two-dimensional masterplan

  • Elevations where required

  • Material and finishes specification

  • Construction drawings for relevant elements

  • Detailed planting plans

  • Plant schedules, including species, quantities and positioning

  • Two or three stages of design refinement

The precise drawings and information included will depend on the nature and complexity of the project.

Detailed garden design typically begins at £1,500, with fees based on garden size, level changes, technical detailing and planting complexity.

Concept & Vision Plan

A concept-led service for clients who need a clear overall direction for their garden.

It is particularly suited to smaller gardens, early-stage projects or clients who intend to develop and implement the scheme gradually.

Typically includes:

  • Initial consultation and site study

  • Concept layout

  • Visual references or moodboard

  • Initial materials and planting direction

  • One or two stages of refinement

The completed concept provides a coherent framework for the garden but does not include the detailed technical information required for construction.

Concept plans typically begin at £600 for compact gardens. Larger or more complex sites are individually quoted.

Garden Design & Build

Our complete design-and-build service takes a garden from its first ideas through to construction and planting.

Andy remains closely involved throughout the project, working alongside the Hook Garden Design team to ensure that the original design intent is carried through into the finished garden. This continuity allows design decisions, materials and details to be carefully managed as the project develops.

The service typically includes:

  • Detailed garden design

  • Project planning and preparation

  • Material sourcing and procurement

  • Site clearance and ground preparation

  • Hard landscaping and construction

  • Bespoke garden features where required

  • Soil preparation

  • Plant sourcing and installation

  • Final detailing and establishment guidance

  • Ongoing design input throughout the build

Where specialist trades are required, these can be integrated into the wider project while Hook Garden Design remains the client’s principal point of contact.

This service is intended for clients who want a cohesive process and a completed garden rather than a design package alone.

Design & Build typically £10,000–£20,000+ depending on project demands.

Planting Plan

Our planting design service is for gardens where the principal layout is already established but the planting needs to be created, renewed or reconsidered.

The scheme is developed around the conditions of the site, the character of the garden and the level of maintenance the client is comfortable with. Plant combinations are selected to provide structure, seasonal interest and resilience through hotter summers and wetter winters.

Typically includes:

  • Initial consultation and assessment of the existing garden

  • Review of soil, light and site conditions

  • Planting concept and visual direction

  • Detailed planting plan

  • Plant schedule with species, quantities and positioning

  • One or two stages of refinement

Plant sourcing, soil preparation and installation can be discussed separately where required.

Typically between £450–£2,500 depending on the size and complexity.

Beginning a project

Every project begins with an initial conversation, followed by a visit to the garden where appropriate. This allows us to understand the site, discuss your priorities and determine which level of service is most suitable.

Following the consultation, you will receive a clearly defined proposal setting out the scope of work, design fees and the next stages of the project.

“We had no idea how to make the most of our garden, but Andy completely transformed it. Now it feels like an extension of our home — beautiful, easy to care for, and totally ‘us’. The whole process was so collaborative and stress-free. We use the space every day now.”
