Each system is planned around the planting, soil conditions and layout of the garden, rather than treated as a standard off-the-shelf installation.
A more intelligent way to water
Traditional overhead watering can be inefficient. Water may fall on paving, foliage or bare ground, while some plants receive too much and others too little.
Dripline and micro-irrigation systems apply water more precisely, close to the root zone of the plants.
This can help to:
provide more consistent watering;
reduce unnecessary water loss;
support new planting while it establishes;
make larger gardens easier to manage;
reduce the time spent moving hoses and watering cans;
water containers, raised beds, trees, borders and hedging more reliably.

Irrigation as part of a resilient garden
Irrigation should not be used as a substitute for good planting design, healthy soil or appropriate plant selection.
It works best as one element within a wider approach to creating resilient gardens.
Depending on the site, this may also include:
choosing plants suited to the soil and exposure;
improving soil structure and moisture retention;
applying organic mulch;
creating areas of shade and shelter;
reducing exposed or impermeable surfaces;
capturing and managing rainfall;

Systems may include:
Dripline irrigation
Dripline is laid through planted areas and releases water gradually along its length. It is particularly suitable for borders, hedging and larger areas of planting.
Micro-drip irrigation
Micro-drip systems deliver water to individual plants or containers. They are useful where watering requirements vary or where planting is dispersed.
Micro-sprinklers
Micro-sprinklers can be used where a broader but still controlled area of watering is appropriate.
Automatic controllers
Battery-powered or mains-powered controllers can be used to operate the system automatically at programmed times.
Where a garden has different planting requirements, the system can be divided into separate zones so that each area receives an appropriate amount of water.
Designed around the garden
No two gardens have exactly the same watering requirements.
Before recommending a system, we consider:
the size and layout of the garden;
the type and maturity of the planting;
soil conditions;
water pressure and flow rate;
changes in level;
exposure to sun and wind;
access to an outside tap or water supply;
the number of watering zones required;
how the garden is likely to develop over time.
This allows the irrigation layout to respond to the garden rather than forcing the garden to fit a standard system.
New systems only
We currently specialise in the design and installation of new garden irrigation systems.
We do not generally undertake repairs or ongoing maintenance of systems installed by other contractors, as their condition and specification may be unknown.
Where an existing system is already present, we may be able to assess whether a new section can be installed independently.
Lawn irrigation
Our main focus is irrigation for planting, including borders, hedging, trees and containers.
Lawn irrigation may be considered where it is appropriate, but it is assessed separately because lawns can require considerably greater volumes of water than planted areas.
In some gardens, reducing the size of the lawn, changing the grass specification or allowing seasonal dormancy may provide a more resilient solution than installing extensive lawn irrigation.
Our process
1. Initial enquiry
Send us a brief description of the garden, along with photographs and an approximate location.
2. Site assessment
We assess the garden, planting, water supply, pressure, access and likely irrigation requirements.
3. System design and quotation
We produce a clear proposal outlining the recommended system, watering zones, controls and installation cost.
4. Installation
The system is installed and tested, with pipework positioned as discreetly as possible within the garden.
5. Programming and handover
We set up the controller, explain how the system operates and provide guidance on seasonal adjustments.
Suitable for new and established gardens
Irrigation can be particularly valuable where:
a new garden or planting scheme is being established;
there are extensive borders or long sections of hedging;
the garden contains numerous pots or raised beds;
hand-watering has become too time-consuming;
plants regularly suffer during prolonged dry periods;
the garden is left unattended during holidays;
there are areas that are difficult to reach with a hose;
watering needs to be more consistent.
It can also be incorporated into a wider garden design or planting project from the outset.
Water-efficient rather than water-dependent
Our aim is not to create gardens that rely permanently on excessive irrigation.
The objective is to use water carefully and strategically, particularly during establishment and extended dry periods.
A successful system should support the garden without disguising unsuitable planting, poor soil preparation or inefficient water use.
